The Legal Department offers free legal advice and assistance with special emphasis on human rights test cases and public interest case litigation.
When found necessary, cases are brought for litigation at ZimRights' networking organisations - i.e. ZLHR, ZWLA and LRF.
The Legal Department also does outreach activities where the paralegal officers offer free legal advice and assistance in both urban and rural communities. When doing outreach activities, the paralegal officers also cover the following:
- Investigate cases, emphasis on Human Rights abuses
- Identify public interest cases
- Assist communities to take us community issues
Screening of cases - ZLHR
The department networks with other relevant stakeholders that offer legal aid. e.g. The Zimbabwe Lawyers fo HUman Rights (ZLHR), Zimabwbe Womens Lawyers Assocation (ZWLA) and the Legal Resource Foundation (LRF).
Part of the department's work involves the screening of cases and provide recommendations for litigation at ZLHR, ZLHR or LRF if necessary.
Manned by paralegal officers, the Legal Department runs a programme aimed at training Paralegal-helpers based in different local communities, whose responsibility is to take cases from community members and forwardring them to the offices for handling.

Legal Aid Department
